Definition of teratozoospermia and its treatment
In recent years, cases of infertility have become more frequent among the male population. Moreover, male infertility is not inferior to female infertility. Impaired male fertility is the cause of teratozoospermia. What is teratozoospermia?
Semen contains sperm. If a large number of sperm are not normal (with defects), then the patient is diagnosed with teratozoospermia. The norm is the fact that in the composition of sperm, abnormal sex cells are counted singly. Teratozoospermia says it is caused by 86% or more of abnormal cells found in semen.
Teratozoospermia warns that this phenomenon becomes the cause of male infertility. In other words, a man cannot have full-fledged offspring.
Some experts make such a diagnosis in men already at 55% of deviations from the norm. This pathology is due to impaired production of semen. With a pathological structure of sperm, they do not have the ability to normal fertilization. In these cases, women may experience a miscarriage or fetal freezing. This is what teratozoospermia is.
What are the abnormalities of sperm cells
There are several types of sperm abnormalities:
Men are wondering about the danger of this pathology and its consequences. This disease leads to complete infertility of the man. In a normal state, the ejaculant should not exceed more than 30% of the sperm with defects. Defective sperm cells cannot move normally, fertilize an egg, sometimes fertilization with genetic deformity occurs.
Factors provoking the development of such a pathology
The appearance of teratozoospermia in men is not considered a rare occurrence today.
The development of pathology is due to a number of reasons:
- Hereditary disposition. It occurs due to a violation of spermatogenesis, impaired metabolism, the development of diseases in the urinary and genital area.
- Viral infection. This includes the flu, mumps, chickenpox, colds that have affected the entire body. Herpes is considered the most dangerous. When teratozoospermia has arisen due to these complications, then therapeutic therapy begins with eliminating the cause of the disease. Teratozoospermia requires treatment with antiviral medications.
- Diseases of the urinary and genital area. The causes of the pathology: renal pathology, prostatitis, orchitis, epididymitis.
- Varicocele. Stagnation in the venous system provokes a violation of microcirculation in the testicles. Kinked veins are also a cause for abnormal blood supply.
- Fermentopathy. Lack of produced enzymes, which are necessary for the production of quality semen.
- Hormonal imbalance. Most often at a young age, it occurs due to the use of steroids and anabolic steroids.
- Incorrect lifestyle. This includes not only addiction to alcohol, drugs and smoking. A sedentary life, eating fatty foods, spending time in front of a computer or TV, taking a hot bath, frequent baths are unacceptable habits.
- Environmental pollution. Severe working conditions, radiation exposure, work in the chemical industry, contact with toxic substances, regular stressful situations are also the cause of infertility.
Genetic predisposition to teratozoospermia occurs in only half of the patients, in other cases, pathology occurs due to improper lifestyle or diseases of the genitourinary system that have not been cured.
Recognizing disease by symptoms
Subjective feelings of defective sperm cells in men are not manifested. You can live your whole life without knowing about the presence of such a disease (absence of a symptom). The main symptom is not the possibility of pregnancy in a partner with constant unprotected sexual relations. The results of fertilization are the only factor by which a pathological phenomenon can be suspected.
Indirect signs of the disease include:
- Pregnancy does not occur for more than 12 months.
- Early termination of pregnancy
- Frozen pregnancy.
- Pathologies occurring with the ovum.
The exact definition of the cause of infertility can be made by the attending specialist based on the results of diagnostics. In order to make sure that spermatogenesis is normal, it is necessary to conduct research.
Diagnosing tetatozoospermia
The first thing a man should do before conceiving a future child is to pass a spermogram. The semen examination is carried out in two passes, with an interval of two weeks. It is better to take the analysis in different medical institutions.
The norm is:
- Sperm count 2-5 ml.
- The total sperm count is 45-500 million.
- 1 ml - 15-125 million sperm.
- A small number of poorly motile sperm.
- Almost half of the sperm cells are very active.
- Leukocytes - limit up to 2.
- Correct sperm morphology over 60%.
- Lack of red blood cells.
With sperm quality scores over 1.7, men have very little chance of natural fertilization.
For a complete diagnosis, additional research is required to do this:
- ultrasound diagnostics of the prostate and scrotum;
- MAR-testing for antibody concentration;
- NVA testing for assessing sperm maturity;
- Genetic testing;
- Plasma hormone testing.
In order to cure a disease that has arisen against the background of diseases, transmitted through sexual contact, you will need to pass other tests. Appointments are determined by a specialist.
How is teratozoospermia treated
Treatment for teratozoospermia begins with eliminating the cause of the manifestation of sperm with defects. For this, drugs with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory effects are prescribed. For varicocele in adult men, doctors recommend surgery.
Using medication
Treatment for teratozoospermia involves vitamin therapy.
Treatment is carried out in courses, it can be:
- Folic acid;
- Vitamins C, E;
- Succinic acid;
- A complex of vitamins with zinc, selenium, iodine.
How to treat teratozoospermia? The doctor may prescribe the use of biological supplements that have a beneficial effect on the quality of sperm:
- Tribestan.
- L-carnitine.
- Verona.
- Gerimax - ginseng.
- Spermactin.
After taking a spermogram, if defective sperm cells or a small number of them are detected, urologists recommend taking Spermactin or Speman as a treatment for teratozoospermia. At the same time, an increase in sperm volume occurs, which has a positive effect on an increase in the number of sperm, and therefore healthy sperm too.
