This international comparison does not just show the size of the clothes, but a much more accurate actual bust measurement in each country.

Average bust

In fact, the average volume of a natural female breast in the world is approximately 327 milliliters. This fits the European B size standard.

Which country has the largest breasts for women

North Americans have the largest breasts, and Asians have the smallest. With an average volume of 1668ml and a corresponding F cup size, US women are ranked #1 in this comparison out of 102 countries.

Who did the research

The Internet is full of different interactive maps of female bust sizes by country.

Unfortunately, almost all of them are based on the same Targetmap post that appeared back in 2010. The author of that information, Yarkko, did not expand on his sources.

The table below shows the results of a large 2013 study published in the Journal of Female Health Science.

What is particularly striking is the average size in the US. Objectively, the accuracy of measurements for these positions is doubtful, but no other figures have been presented yet.

International bra sizes

The starting point was data from bra manufacturers, which indicated only the cup size. Confusion is regularly caused by different national standards. For example, in the USA "C" already corresponds to the European size "E", which often leads to errors. All bra sizes listed on this page are European standard sizes.

How the measurements were taken

In more than 100 countries, women's busts have been measured using mostly 3D body scanners. There are no self-assessments in the results, but only objective figures from medical examinations.

All subjects were between 28 and 30 years old, and they were divided by country of birth. All women were healthy, not pregnant, not breastfeeding, not taking hormonal drugs, and not undergoing breast surgery. Women from the United States were divided according to their race: white and non-white.

During the study, many measurement results were discarded, as they turned out to be either too inaccurate or were carried out in violation of the methodology and for this reason could not be accepted by scientists. Also, some countries were excluded due to the low number of women tested per country (less than 700). As a result, more than 340,000 results from 102 countries remained.

Incorrect self-esteem

In many studies, women were additionally asked about their own bra cup size. In most cases, the answers turned out to be indicative and often had little to do with the actual size. The most common reason for this is that women often wear oversized bras. This has financial reasons, especially in third world countries. In more developed countries, women are more likely to use the services of specialty stores, which leads to the optimal choice of clothing sizes.

Bra size and overweight

It is clear that breast enlargement often occurs in countries where obesity is a problem. To illustrate this, the average BMI (body mass index) of women is shown in an additional column of the table.

This index is common to all American women and is 29.0, which is a lot. However, the study shows that the ratio of large breasts to obesity in the US and Canada is lower than in other countries. Therefore, 52% of women born in the US with a BMI of 21-24 already have a bra size F or higher.

Breast forms

The results of the study also show a definite connection between the origin of a woman and the shape of her breasts. Thus, in the United States, the breasts are predominantly hemispherical, while in other countries they are usually pear-shaped. Outside the US, 25 percent of the largest breasts were classified as "hanging" or "saggy".

For all North American women, even breasts that are oversized by European standards are still round. It also implies a different position and direction of the nipple. In the US, on average, it points slightly upward and is about 3.8 cm above the center of gravity. On average for all other countries, it is slightly downward and is 2 cm below the center of gravity.
