Inflammation of the bladder in men
Inflammation of the bladder in men
One of the common urological diseases is cystitis. This ailment is more related to female diseases, because. due to anatomical features, the representatives of the stronger sex suffer from it much less frequently. But inflammation of the bladder in men is just as acute, and there are many factors contributing to its appearance. How to recognize a serious illness, how to prevent its occurrence and how to treat inflammation of the bladder?
Features of cystitis
The inflammatory process that occurs in the mucous membranes of the bladder is expressed in a violation of urination: going to the restroom becomes a difficult test. Inflammatory processes are provoked by viruses and bacteria penetrating through the urethra. Typically, cystitis is diagnosed in men of middle and older age: after forty years, a person's immunity decreases due to age-related changes in the body. It is easier for representatives of pathogenic microflora to penetrate into the pelvic cavity through a long and narrow urinary canal, the protection of which is weakened by various factors.
The main reasons for the sickness are:
- Infectious diseases of the pelvic organs;
- Chronic respiratory diseases;
- Injuries of the genitourinary system, provoked incl. surgery or medical procedures.
Cystitis rarely develops as an independent disease. Usually, its symptoms occur after the diagnosis of serious pathologies of the genitourinary system. An infection that has struck the prostate gland, urethra, appendages or testes rises upward, provoking inflammation of the bladder neck, then the bladder itself, and the kidneys. The manifestations of the disease are similar to the symptoms of other "male" diseases, so this pathology often goes unnoticed, and its treatment is not carried out - this contributes to the transition of cystitis into a chronic form.
The inflammatory process occurs in a favorable environment, which becomes the stagnation of urine. This phenomenon usually provokes a narrowing of the lumen of the bladder neck or its ureters. The reasons for this phenomenon are kidney stones in the bladder itself, the presence of foreign objects in the organ, compression of the urinary tract by neoplasms of other parts (prostate adenoma, cystic formations, malignant tumors).
Urinary tract diseases that have an infectious etiology can also provoke inflammation: for example, symptoms of cystitis often occur in patients suffering from chronic urethritis, pyelonephritis, prostatitis, which are not treated or are treated incorrectly. Sexually transmitted diseases are no less dangerous, for which antibiotics are used: strong drugs weaken the patient's immunity, which contributes to the ascent of the infection.
The second type of disease development is descending, when the pathogenic microflora that has affected the organs of the upper body descends into the abdominal cavity and pelvis. So, cystitis can occur in patients suffering from kidney tuberculosis, diseases of the respiratory system, acute influenza. That is, any infectious disease, the treatment of which is not carried out properly, can provoke an inflammatory process on the bladder mucosa.
Other reasons for the development of cystitis include injuries to the organs of the genitourinary system, hypothermia, and surgical interventions. All this leads to a weakening of male immunity, the patient cannot resist the aggressive representatives of the pathogenic microflora, which affects more and more internal organs.
Symptoms
If a man feels the symptoms of inflammation, he needs to seek medical help from a urologist as soon as possible. The sooner the treatment of pathology begins, the sooner it will be possible to stop the process and prevent the transition of the disease into a chronic state. The main signs of inflammation of the bladder are:
- Pain when going to the toilet, burning in the urethra;
- Sharp pain in the lower abdomen, penis, scrotum, pubic area;
- The appearance of sediment in the urine, traces of blood are possible, the urine itself becomes cloudy, with a pungent odor;
- Frequent urination, especially at rest, while the portions of urine excreted are very small;
- General deterioration of health: high temperature, fever, fatigue, irritability, drowsiness;
- Dramatic reduction in daily urine volume;
- Urine incontinence.
If the fight against the disease is not carried out, the patient's condition worsens every day, more severe symptoms appear: purulent discharge in the urine or from the urethra between visits to the restroom, blood clots, flakes. Disturbed outflow of urine leads to the development of intoxication of the body, since harmful substances are not excreted. The temperature rises to critical levels, which can cause the death of the patient.
These symptoms are characteristic of both forms of cystitis: chronic and acute. But in the chronic stage, they are less bright, some of them may be absent.
Treatment
Any of the alarming symptoms should be a reason for urgent medical attention. The urologist will listen to the patient's complaints, interview him, prescribe a series of examinations and tests. Based on their results, treatment will be prescribed, which, for cystitis, necessarily includes antibiotics. In addition to antibiotics, pills will be prescribed that stop the main manifestations of the disease: painkillers, anti-inflammatory, anti-edema, lowering the temperature. If the pills are not able to cope with attacks of acute pain, the patient should be placed in a hospital, where treatment is carried out with the help of droppers, medical procedures, in severe cases - by surgery.
Until the end of an acute attack, the patient is shown strict bed rest and a diet. With inflammation of the bladder, any products that can cause irritation of the mucous membrane are excluded from the patient's menu: pickles, smoked meats, spices, dishes with high acidity, sweets, sparkling water, alcohol. The latter is strictly prohibited throughout the course of medical therapy, including antibiotics.
What medicine will be most effective in the fight against cystitis - the doctor determines specifically for each patient after a bacterial urine culture. Such an analysis allows you to identify the causative agent of the disease and prescribe antibiotics that can destroy it or prevent its further reproduction. If the disease has developed for the first time, proceeds in a mild form, antibiotics can be replaced with broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents. Such tablets contain cephalosporins, nitrofurans or fluoroquinolones, which are also effective in the fight against representatives of pathogenic microflora.
The intake of such potent drugs as antibiotics is necessarily accompanied by the appointment of drugs that normalize the intestinal microflora and protect the patient's liver. Additionally, symptomatic treatment is carried out, aimed at:
- Increasing the outflow of urine from the patient's body (diuretics);
- Relief of the main manifestations of the inflammatory process;
- Improving kidney function;
- Removing spasms of the smooth muscles of the urinary system.
Non-hormonal anti-inflammatory drugs, antispasmodics or analgesics are recommended as pain relievers. All medicines are prescribed only by the attending doctor, who is familiar with the peculiarities of the course of the patient's illness, his general state of health. It is strictly forbidden to take any pills on your own, because. not all drugs are compatible with each other, which can provoke adverse reactions or the development of severe complications.
If an ailment arose as a complication of an already existing infectious or venereal disease, then it is first treated, and then the inflammation is removed. The same is done if cystitis is caused by a tumor or a foreign body: an operation or therapy is carried out aimed at eliminating the main cause of the disease, after that - the fight against the consequences, i.e. inflammatory process. The intake of medications can be supplemented with special physiotherapeutic procedures: washing the bladder cavity, electrophoresis, therapeutic exercises. Such physiotherapy will also be required after the removal of an acute attack of the disease in order to prevent its transition into a chronic form or the development of a relapse.
Throughout the treatment, a man is advised to give up intimacy and follow a strict diet. Hypothermia of the body, possible infection with genitourinary or sexually transmitted diseases should be avoided. To prevent the recurrence of the disease, as well as to speed up recovery, the patient is recommended homeopathic medicines that improve the functioning of the entire urinary system and increase the overall immunity of the body.
