Osteochondrosis - symptoms and treatment
Is it possible to cure osteochondrosis
The main principle is that it is not "osteochondrosis" that needs to be treated, i.e. x-ray changes in the spine, but the specific cause that caused pain and limitation of mobility. Whether the patient is completely cured depends on the cause of the disease.
The basic principles of osteochondrosis treatment include several groups of measures that together can stop the development of the disease.
General recommendations for patients will be adherence to the regimen (for example, if there is acute intense pain, bed rest is possible); limitation of physical activity (avoid tilting and rotation of the body, lifting weights, prolonged sitting) and wearing a special corset (several days in the acute period of the disease).
An important factor in successful treatment is timely and adequate pain relief. The most effective in the acute period is the injection of anti-inflammatory drugs, and then a transition to tablet forms is possible.
Drugs for osteochondrosis
To prevent further development of the disease, methods of influencing the muscle-tonic component of pain are used in the treatment. In this case, the main pharmacological drugs are muscle relaxants, i.e. drugs that stop spasmodic muscles, post-isometric relaxation methods (for example, manual therapy or acupuncture).
Injections for osteochondrosis
One of the most effective means of quickly stopping the pain syndrome of stopping the progression of the disease is local injection of anesthetics and anti-inflammatory drugs (paravertebral blockades). This procedure is carried out only by a qualified doctor, because. when injecting a therapeutic composition, special trigger points in the paravertebral space are activated).
Ointments for osteochondrosis
To relieve local inflammation, applications with anti-inflammatory drugs in the form of ointments can be used. Drugs for pain relief are prescribed by the attending physician individually, depending on the nature and severity of the pain syndrome.
Acupuncture for osteochondrosis
Acupuncture, or acupuncture, will be useful for the treatment of muscular tonic syndrome.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy (magnetotherapy, electrophoresis) is usually done every day or every other day. It is important to remember that all methods of physiotherapy have contraindications, so the doctor prescribes the procedures individually for each patient.
Manual therapy and massage
Manual therapy is performed by a neurologist according to indications. Since Back pain can have different causes, first of all, the doctor takes into account the results of the MRI of the part of the spine with which he will work. Before a manual therapy session, a muscle massage is mandatory. Usually 5 to 10 sessions are required. No more than two procedures are carried out per week. Efficiency is evaluated after the third procedure.
Traction (traction) of the spine
Traction is the application of a force that pulls two adjacent bones away from each other, increasing the distance between them. A review published in the Cochrane Library found that traction alone or in combination with physical therapy was no more effective than placebo in the treatment of low back pain. Moreover, side effects were noted in seven of 32 studies and included: increased pain, exacerbation of neurological symptoms and the need for subsequent surgery 13.
Chondroprotectors for spinal osteochondrosis
There is no consensus on the effectiveness of chondoprotectors in the medical community.
Self-massage for osteochondrosis
If you have back pain, you should consult a neurologist, self-massage is ineffective.
Orthopedic pillow and collar for osteochondrosis
Aids can help you sleep more comfortably, but most of the time they won't fix the cause of your back pain.
Exercise therapy and exercises for osteochondrosis
In case of exacerbation of back pain, physical activity should be limited: avoid tilting and rotating the torso, lifting weights. A set of exercises is selected by the doctor individually for each patient.
Treatment of complications
Operational intervention is shown only in rare cases, 10 when there is:
- Acute compression of intervertebral roots in the lower spinal sinks (so-called "horse-tail" syndrome), which is sprinkled by the increase in the lower paraward (immobilization of the lower extremities) and the violation of the pelvic functions (urination, defecation, erection);
- spin therapy roaster cavulum causing an increasing parapaprex (immobilization of the limbs);
- heavy pain syndrome, not amenable to conservative treatment for 6-8 weeks;
- stenosis (narrowing) of the spinal canal , lateral pocket or intervertebral opening.
In the treatment of chronic pain syndromes, drugs are used in the form of tablets, injections and ointments: analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, mines, relaxing spasmed muscles. In some cases, if the pain is tighted, antidepressants and anti-wurals are applied.
The greatest efficiency shows the course therapeutic and diagnostic blockade, under which local administration of medicines in the affected area of the spine occurs.
Non-drug therapy includes massages, medicinal gymnastics, manual therapy, physiotherapy and needleflexotherapy. It should be especially emphasized here that some of these methods cannot be determined in the acute phase of the disease.
It follows that a set of osteochondrosis therapy measure must be appointed only by a doctor individually to each patient. 11
Is it possible to "warm" osteochondrosis
In some cases, for example, with muscle pain, the warming of the priniety relief, however, during the root pain, this is a useless method.
If not treated osteochondrosis
The consequences of osteochondrosis - without timely treatment of pain in the back become persistent and chronic. Such pains are treated much harder, more often in stationary conditions.
Home treatments
Back pain can be caused by a variety of reasons, some of which requires immediate treatment. Experiments with the means of traditional medicine can lead to loss of time and dangerous complications.
How to sleep when osteochondrosis
It is possible to easily fall asleep with the back of the back with medicines appointed by the attending physician. These include: drugs of the NSAID Group (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory funds), muscle relaxants, antidepressants and anticonvulsants. Sleep hygiene is also important - you should sleep in the TMN and a well-ventilated room and in the absence of extraneous noise.
