Poison and erection: what is spider Viagra?
The effect of poisons on the human body is still relatively little studied, and from time to time scientists present new sensations to the world. One such discovery was recently covered by the British tabloid The Sun.
Brazilian spider venom and male erection
Researchers have found that the Brazilian wandering spider's deadly venom is "more effective than Viagra" and can be used to treat erectile dysfunction in men.
The Brazilian wandering spider or Phoneutria (lat.) is a genus of spiders of the runner family (Ctenidae). In the 2010 Guinness Book of Records, this genus was recognized as containing the most poisonous members of the family. It lives in the tropical part of South and Central America. Spider venom contains a powerful neurotoxin known as PhTx3. The bite is of medium pain, the poison causes instant infection of the lymphatic system, entering the circulatory system in 85% leads to heart failure. Patients feel severe stiffness, in men sometimes poisoning causes priapism.
Scientists claim that the gel, which contains the toxin of this spider, helps the test subjects achieve an erection within half an hour. It turns out that the poison from one of the deadliest spiders in the world in a therapeutic dosage is able to cheer up the bedroom.

What's more, researchers report that this treatment is more effective than taking Viagra and could soon help millions of men suffering from erectile dysfunction.
How spider venom affects erections
It has long been observed that many men bitten by the Brazilian spider suffered bouts of priapism, painful and prolonged erections.
During the tests, doctors found in the composition of the poison a substance that doubles the blood flow to the penis.
It turned out that it increases the level of nitric oxide, which expands the blood microvessels that pump blood into the cavernous bodies of the male reproductive organ during arousal.
Clinical studies have shown that subjects who applied Brazilian spider venom gel increased blood flow to the penis by as much as 113 percent without any sexual stimulation.
Spider gel has the potential to be a safe and effective option for patients with erectile dysfunction.
Scientists say the spider toxin-based gel causes an erection within half an hour, with no side effects.
Without any stimulation, intense penile tension lasting about 1 hour was noticed after only 20 minutes".
According to experts, therapy with microdoses of wandering spider venom can also help women with a weakened libido.
Prospects for the "new Viagra"
About five million Britons suffer from impotence caused by stress, depression or conditions that affect blood flow, including heart disease and diabetes.
One out of three do not benefit from Viagra and other treatments, such as a vacuum pump.
"We believe this tool has the potential to fill a huge gap in the market and help millions of people around the world," says Professor Maria Elena de Lima.
In turn, the consultant urologist Professor Raj Persad from Bristol states:
"If the 'potion' is as potent as described, then it could be an excellent second-line therapy after a failed Viagra-type tablet treatment."
