Erectile dysfunction and psoriasis what is the relationship
Erectile dysfunction and psoriasis what is the relationship?
Scientists note the relationship between these two diseases. They concluded that patients with psoriasis face a significantly higher risk of sexual dysfunction than those without skin problems.
Numerous studies point to a relationship between psoriasis, general skin condition, and sexual dysfunction.
Although this relationship also occurs in women, its prevalence is most pronounced in men, who face a significantly increased risk of erectile dysfunction if diagnosed with psoriasis.
The most recent research project to address this issue was an American Medical Association review published in this year's January issue in JAMA Dermatology. The work, carried out by a team of Spanish dermatologists, evaluates the results of 28 relevant studies involving 52,520 patients with psoriasis, as well as 1.8 million healthy participants in the project, who were followed up for comparison.

Scientists observed a higher incidence of sexual dysfunction among participants with psoriasis than among those who did not have skin problems. Specifically, they found that patients with psoriasis were five and a half times more likely to eventually be diagnosed with erectile dysfunction than normal patients.
At the conclusion of the study, it was noted that patients diagnosed with psoriasis also appear to suffer from several physiological and psychological disorders that have previously been associated with a higher risk of problems in the genital area. Such comorbid conditions include psoriatic arthritis, genital disorders, depression and anxiety. At the same time, the researchers noted that many patients with psoriasis who received the necessary drugs experienced a decrease in the symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
Revealed in 2018, research by Chinese physicians focuses more specifically on the link between psoriasis and increased risk of erectile function.

Chinese doctors analyzed the results of nine studies covering 36,242 psoriasis patients and almost 1.7 million men who did not suffer from psoriasis. The data confirmed a statistically significant association between psoriasis and ED risk. However, the researchers noted that "more research is needed to prove this relationship and expand knowledge in this area."
Similar results were obtained in another Chinese project, which was a systematic review of the relevant scientific literature. A review published in November 2018 in the International Journal of Impotence Research provides an analysis of the results of eight relevant studies. Here again, the numbers point to a significantly higher risk of ED among male patients with psoriasis.
