(benign prostatic hyperplasia) into a benign tumor resulting from the proliferation of cells of the glandular tissue of the prostate due to improper action on the non-male sex hormone testosterone.
Adenoma often occurs in men over 50. To date, all the causes of adenoma are not yet fully known. The factors that affect its development include not only age and hormonal disorders, but also the presence of a number of diseases (for example, atherosclerosis), large weight gain, age-related changes in lifestyle, stress, environmental factors. It is generally accepted that prostate adenoma is a manifestation of male menopause.
An enlarged prostate gland compresses the urethra, which leads to impaired outflow of urine from the bladder: from a slight decrease in urine flow rate to a complete inability to empty the bladder.
Disruption of the normal process of urination leads to stagnation of urine and, as a result, to the development of urolithiasis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, etc.
Prostate cancer is characterized by a slow course. From the moment of the formation of a small tumor to the stage of the appearance of metastases, it can take 10 to 15 years. However, metastases can appear much earlier, depending on the individual characteristics of the course of the disease. The spread of metastases usually goes to the lymph nodes, adrenal glands, bones, lungs, liver.
Until the tumor began to spread to other organs, i.e. did not give metastases, it can be removed, and the person will be healthy. But if metastases appear, then the patient cannot be completely cured.
