Cialis
The drug Cialis belongs to a group of drugs used in urology. According to the international classification, it has the G04BE code. The active substance of the drug is tadalafil. Produced by Eli Lilly.
Pharmacological effects
Selectively blocking type 5 cyclooxygenase, "Cialis" leads to relaxation of the muscles of the arteries, which increases blood flow to the corpora cavernosa of the penis and the appearance of an erection. This occurs only with sexual stimulation followed by a topical release of nitric oxide. There are several types of cyclooxygenase, with overwhelming levels in certain organs. Selective blockade of the fifth type of cyclooxygenase makes it possible to avoid many undesirable effects associated with the stimulation of other types of the enzyme. So, for example, cyclooxygenase of the third type is located in the heart and is involved in its contraction, cyclooxygenase of the sixth type predominates in the retina, taking part in color perception. Cialis does not change color perception, visual acuity and intraocular pressure precisely because of its selectivity. Cialis does not significantly change the heart rate and blood pressure, without exerting a pronounced effect on the third type of cyclooxygenase. "Cialis" does not affect sperm quality indicators:
- sperm count
- sperm motility
- sperm structure
Pharmacokinetics of the drug
The effect of taking Cialis appears, with sexual stimulation, after sixteen minutes and lasts up to thirty-six hours, thanks to a half-life of 17.5 hours. Tadalafil (Cialis) is well absorbed, reaching a maximum concentration in the blood two hours after ingestion. Ninety-four percent of tadalafil binds to blood proteins, which must be taken into account when prescribing other drugs with the same characteristics. Metabolism occurs with the participation of cytochrome P450 enzymes. Most of the dose is excreted in the feces (61%). 36% of the inactive metabolites of the drug are excreted in the urine.
Indications for use
Erectile dysfunction in men. The drug is not prescribed for women.
Application and dosage
"Cialis" must be taken thirty minutes before a possible sexual intercourse in a dosage of 10 milligrams. If this dose is ineffective, it is increased to 20 milligrams. It is recommended to take it no more than once a day, which is associated with a long half-life. If frequent (at least twice a week) sexual intercourse is planned, it is possible to use the drug daily at regular intervals in small dosages (2.5-5 milligrams per day). This regimen is not recommended for long-term use and should be reviewed by a specialist doctor.
