Cialis And Grapefruit Why Is It Not Recommended To Combine

Why is it not recommended to combine Cialis and grapefruit? After all, grapefruit juice has been the drink recommended by doctors for many patients for a very long time.

Dietitians specifically recommend this type of juice because of its ability to increase the rate at which most drugs are processed in the intestines and enter the bloodstream. However, with the advent of such popular erectile dysfunction drugs as Cialis, scientists, doctors and researchers have discovered that this is not always the case.

More than 50 prescribed drugs from different categories react quite negatively to the presence of grapefruit juice. And if you really need to take Cialis anytime soon, there's a very good reason to avoid all kinds of grapefruit-based products, not just juice.

The problem with grapefruit is that it contains a compound called furanocoumarin. This chemical does not harm the body as a whole, but it has a very strong antagonistic effect on a set of specific enzymes in the intestines that are responsible for breaking down Cialis and other similar drugs and delivering them to the bloodstream.

So by drinking grapefruit juice or the fruit itself, you are simply "closing the door" preventing the active ingredient in Cialis, tadalafil, from entering your bloodstream and doing its job. That is why the effectiveness of most drugs for erectile dysfunction, as well as a number of other similar drugs (Viagra, Levitra), is significantly reduced when they are taken with grapefruit juice.

Obviously the easiest way to avoid these potential problems is to keep your juice on the shelf if you're looking forward to Cialis. At the same time, if you really want to drink juice along with the medicine, any other citrus or apple juice is fine.

Grapefruit products have been found to be the only ones containing potentially problematic compounds, so it is perfectly safe to drink orange or lemon juice with Cialis. It also doesn't hurt to take a close look at the ingredients of most products before taking Cialis and other erectile dysfunction medications, as you probably don't want to waste your time and money instead of getting the most out of the drug.
