Energy drink that caused permanent erections banned in Zambia

Energy Drink That Caused Permanent Erections Banned In Zambia

According to the British edition of the Sun, Power Natural High Energy Drink SX, although it contained the active ingredient Sildenafil Citrate Viagra, was not released on the open market as a sexual aid.

The label on the drink stated that it "boosts libido" and is an "aphrodisiac", and also promised to "revitalize the body and mind".

Sale of this energy drink was banned by the Zambian authorities after men complained of permanent erections.

This "discovery" was made by the Ugandan health authorities, which even led to an increase in the popularity of the drink.

The maker has yet to publicly comment on the ban, while Vikas Kapoor, the company's CEO, previously told the BBC that to his knowledge the drink does not contain any drugs.

However, test results have shown that the drink contains sildenafil citrate.

Authorities in Zambia told Reuters: "The results from both Zimbabwe and South Africa are consistent with results from a food and drug laboratory and indicate the presence of sildenafil citrate."

The head of the Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia, Jerome Kanjaka, said that this was "a welcome step, but also an embarrassing situation for us as a nation, because we had to rely on research in other countries."

Despite the ban, Drink SX is still sold in supermarkets and street vendors.

It is worth noting that the drink was also exported to Uganda, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
