What Is The Average Penis Size

Many men, regardless of age, are obsessed with the size of their "dignity", believing that they are not enough to feel complete. What does "average penis size" mean?

Which landmark to choose? Reports appearing in the media from time to time contradict each other. Let's get acquainted with the results of one of the latest surveys, striking in its scale.

The authors are Englishmen David Veale, Sarah Miles, Sally Bramley, Gordon Muir and John Hodsoll. The work is called "Am I normal? Systematized data on the length and circumference of the penis in 15,521 men."

Official: The average size of an erect penis is 5.17 inches

The physical size of a man's penis is the subject of locker room jokes, as well as the cause of frequent anguish for some men who worry that their reproductive organ is too small and perhaps not enough to satisfy a sexual partner.

As in many such cases, the man who assumes that his penis is too small most often imagines the penises of others as larger than they really are, which reinforces his sense of his own physical inferiority. This can become a serious psychological barrier to getting full satisfaction from sexual relations.

In recent years, a number of global studies have been conducted that looked at the average size of the penis in men living in different countries and regions.

Until early 2015, there was no comprehensive analysis of these numerous observations, which prevented a scientific consensus on the definition of a "normal" penis size in terms of medical statistics.

A team of researchers affiliated with the London Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience and King's College London Medical School has published an epic review in the relevant scientific literature. Based on all the data they looked at, they calculated that the average size of an erect penis in the world is 5.17 inches, or just over 13 centimeters.

Body Dysmorphophobia

Dysmorphophobia, also known as body dysmorphia and sometimes referred to as body dysmorphia, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD for short) and simply dysmorphia, is a mental disorder in which a person is overly concerned and preoccupied with a minor defect or feature of their body.

While many men are worried and unsure about their penis size, only a small percentage of them actually develop body dysmorphic disorder, says Steven Snyder, MD.

Such men most often seek the help of a surgeon for penis enlargement surgery or purchase devices designed to achieve this goal. Ironically, most men with BDD have normal penis sizes.

Snyder notes that those suffering from this form of the disorder are much more likely to develop sexual dysfunction than those who do not think about the length and volume of the penis, and are satisfied with what nature has endowed them with. Moreover, partners who are concerned about penis size tend to view their obsession and the resulting behavior as selfish.

What women really think

Men who are concerned about the size of their penis usually fear that this feeling of inferiority is shared by their partners.

In fact, according to a study from the University of California, 84% of women, or nearly seven out of every eight, feel satisfied with the size of their male partner's penis.

Of the 16 percent who expressed some dissatisfaction with the size of their partner's "dignity", 14% said they would like their penis to be larger, while 2% would prefer a slightly smaller penis.

What the ancients said

Commenting on the UCLA-Cal State Los Angeles study, Psychology Today blogger Michael Castleman notes that the idealization of the large phallus is a product of modern thought.

He quotes a passage from Aristophanes' play "The Clouds" in which a character warns some misbehaving youths that their genitals will enlarge if they don't behave properly. And advises them to obey then their penises will remain small, as they should be. Even the majestic statue of Michelangelo's David has such an unerect penis that in the 21st century many would consider small.

Mean penis size scientific data

A British research group, systematizing previously published scientific work, declared its goal to study the size of the penis in various conditions. For this, 17 relevant projects were selected, covering more than 15,500 men over the age of seventeen without any pathologies in different countries of the world.

In each of the studies, penis size data were reported by healthcare professionals who measured the following parameters: resting and erect length, hand-stretched length, and circumference at rest and when erect. Lengths were measured from the pubis to the tip of the head, girth in the middle of the penis.

The results were published in the June 2015 issue of BJU International. Unfortunately, the data is incomplete, and some figures are surprising, but, as they say, "you can't throw a word out of a song." World averages, according to the report, were 9.16 cm flaccid, 13.24 cm stretched and 13.12 cm erect. In girth: the circumference of a relaxed member is 9.31 cm and 11.66 cm when fully erect.

Indications for penis enlargement surgery

Among all the studies, there was one conducted by US urologists. His goal was to develop guidelines for what size penis should be considered normal. They were intended to advise men who insist on penis enlargement surgery.

Researchers have determined that only men with a penis length less than 4 cm at rest and less than 7.5 cm when extended and erect should be considered for such procedures.

Viagra will help

Viagra and other PDE5 inhibitors are the preferred treatment for erectile dysfunction caused by insufficient blood supply to the penis.

The treatment of ED among men who are concerned about the length or thickness of their penis sometimes faces additional challenges. For some of them, the obsession with penis size develops into body dysmorphic disorder, that is, a more serious psychological problem.

Taking Viagra or its analogues increases self-confidence, helping to overcome anxious expectations before sexual intercourse. Talk to your doctor to work out the right strategy together.
