Oligospermia, can it be cured?

Oligospermia Can It Be Cured

A scanty amount of sperm in the semen leads to the development of a specific disease - oligospermia, when the fertilization of an egg becomes extremely difficult. Pathology is fraught with infertility in men. Before treating, it is important to identify the systemic causes that provoked the disease.

It is almost impossible to identify the disease without conducting special tests, since it is necessary to find out the number of living sperm to dead (in%), which are part of the ejaculate. Oligospermia is diagnosed when the sperm count is clearly underestimated in 1 mg of the total sperm volume. In particular, sperm secretion per ejaculation is sharply reduced. Normally, the release of seminal fluid for 1 ejaculation should be 2-5 mg.

Reasons

Conventionally, reasons are distinguished:

  • objective, provoked by a defect in the testicles, diseases of the endocrine system in case of a violation of the process of sperm production;
  • subjective due to the development of hypovitaminosis, prolonged exposure to cold, colds.

HELP! It has been proven that smoking in 30% of cases in men leads to the development of serious pathologies: oligospermia, hypospermia

The main provoking factors:

  • genital trauma; Age-related changes
  • diseases: prostatitis, varicocele, hypogonadism, cryptorchidism;
  • work in hazardous working conditions;
  • genetic predisposition;
  • abuse of hot treatments (baths, sauna);
  • old age;
  • psycho-emotional, physical stress;
  • frequent intercourse;
  • obesity;
  • hormonal imbalance;
  • hepatic, renal failure;
  • poisoning, intoxication with salts of heavy metals, poisonous substances;
  • radiation exposure, chemotherapy;
  • oncology, development of tumor-like processes in the body;
  • overheating of the testicles;
  • malnutrition;
  • presence of bad habits (smoking, alcohol).

Note! Oligospermia can be recognized as a normal reaction of the body in men over 50, when the activity of the sex glands decreases with age. But at a younger age, this is the result of the course of pathology or infection of the genitals. There is a narrowing of the vas deferens, a decrease in sperm production

Sperm quality can be negatively affected by physical and emotional stress, hormonal imbalances. It has been scientifically proven that even cycling is a common cause of varicocele against the background of enlarged veins of the testicles or spermatic cord. Ecology, radiation, alcohol and medication abuse also negatively affect the male reproductive system.

Almost 20% of the male half reveals fertility after 40 years. Promiscuous sexual intercourse leads to the risk of contracting a bacterial infection (gonorrhea, chlamydia). The process of passage of sperm through the ducts is disrupted or an inflammatory process develops in the testicles.

IMPORTANT! Only a specialist can diagnose idiopathic oligospermia after a full diagnostic study

Symptoms

The disease has no specific symptoms. Only a complete medical examination: tests, semen analysis will help to establish an accurate diagnosis.

Pathology does not lead to a deterioration in the quality of intimate life, however, with regular sexual intercourse after 1.5 years, pregnancy in women does not occur.

This is perhaps the only sign by which one can suspect the development of oligospermia.

When carrying out diagnostics, doctors distinguish several stages of the development of the disease:

  • at the first stage of active spermatozoa in 1 mg of semen there are up to 15 million;
  • at the second stage in up to 30 million in 1 ml of semen;
  • in the third stage, up to 5 million active spermatozoa in 1 mg of sperm;
  • at the fourth stage in up to 2 million in 1 ml of semen.

Can we talk about offspring?

Conception is the most important issue that worries men with oligospermia. Manhood and destiny are suppressed. Many of the stronger sex feel like outcasts, because they are not able to continue their race, to have offspring and are wondering: is it possible for a woman with a similar diagnosis to get pregnant.

Infertility in men sounds like a sentence. Oligospermia is a serious pathology and in order to fight, it is important to identify the true reasons for starting an adequate treatment.

In pathology, there is a shortage of sperm in the ejaculate and a low level of semen volume, which is not enough to fertilize a woman. According to WHO, sperm should contain at least 1.5 ml of spermatozoa, and only under such conditions can one expect the onset of early conception. Although oligospermia cannot be the only cause of infertility.The disease is usually accompanied by other disorders, abnormalities in the spermogram, when additional signs of oligozoospermia, asthenozoospermia, teratospermia are detected with low sperm activity or abnormal sperm structure.

It is at the moment of the desire to acquire offspring that men often learn about the diagnosis - oligospermia, since outwardly the pathology does not manifest itself in any way. The main thing is to trust the doctors in a timely manner, undergo treatment and the recovery process, which is usually difficult and lengthy.

Diagnostic methods

The main diagnostic method is spermogram. If abnormal changes in 2-3 positions are detected, then men are shown a full andrological examination.

HELP! Treatment of pathology does not begin immediately and only after the repeated spermogram, since external, transient factors can affect minor deviations.

A number of studies will help to confirm (refute) the diagnosis:

  • a blood test for the presence of an infectious, inflammatory course in the prostate;
  • Ultrasound of the pelvic organs, genitourinary system;
  • hormone test;
  • genetic research.

In order to prepare, it is recommended for men 5-6 days before the test to eliminate intimacy and the use of alcoholic beverages, to refuse to visit a bath, a hot sauna.

How is the treatment carried out?

If the diagnosis is oligospermia, then the treatment is primarily medication: Imipramine, Feniramine, Ephedrine.

If there is a dysfunction of the testicles, mutations of chromosomes, then medication treatment already becomes ineffective. With varicose veins of the spermatic cord, detection of varicocele, the main treatment in a surgical operation to remove or ligate the dilated veins against the background of varicose veins.

It is possible to prescribe sclerotherapy when diagnosing non-obstructive oligospermia.

The only treatment option is ICSI, a genetic study of sperm, if there is a decrease in luteinizing hormone production or hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.

Hormonal agents in antiestrogenic gonadotropins (Pregnyl, Gonadotropin, Choragon, Ovitrel, Clomiphene, Tamoxifen) are also applicable in the treatment.

HELP! If varicocele and a genetic abnormality are diagnosed, medications become ineffective. Oligospermia is treated exclusively by methods, taking into account provoking factors. If the cause is retrograde ejaculation, then correction of the urethral abnormality or surgery is necessary.

Surgery

The operation is performed in case of detection of oligospermia caused by varicose veins in the spermatic cord. But doctors no longer give promising predictions for healing. Although a 30% increase in sperm count is quite a guarantee of successful conception in 15% of cases.

Today, an effective procedure is in demand - vasoepididymoanastomosis. The main indication for the appointment in the inflammatory course, an infectious disease in the seminal ducts. Also, surgical intervention can be prescribed in case of pathology in the epididymis, a strong decrease in the number of sperm. The testicle is implanted into the ducts of the epididymis.

Note! The obstruction of the ducts inside the testicle cannot be corrected. BUT recovery by surgery or by performing ICSI, puncture biopsy is acceptable

Traditional methods

Oligospermia is a disease that requires treatment under the supervision of a doctor, however, traditional healers advise taking syrups, decoctions, homemade infusions:

  • syrup, rosehip flowers insist, take to facilitate the process of conception;
  • infusion, periwinkle leaves (6 tbsp. l) pour vodka (0.5 l), leave for 10 days in the sun, take 1 tsp. up to 5 times a day to increase sperm motility;
  • sage leaves (10 g) and 1 tbsp pour 1 boiling water (1 glass) of dill, leave for 40 minutes, take 1 tablespoon 3 times a day to increase the production of live spermatozoa capable of fertilization.

Beekeeping products can become indispensable in the treatment of pathology:

  • royal jelly by absorption in the mouth for 1 tsp. per day;
  • bee bee for resorption 1/4 tsp. Royal jelly

Products will help prevent rapid ejaculation, increase sperm production.

The main danger of oligospermia in the development of teratospermia or when the mutation of spermatozoa at the time of fertilization, the formation of cells with abnormal abnormalities, which leads to the death of the fetus in the womb. But doctors are trying to convince men that oligospermia is not a sentence.

The main thing is to find the willpower and desire to defeat the disease. Often, experts advise carrying out alternative methods on the way to conception and the desire to have children - IVF, ICSI.Patients should not refuse, even in case of initial unsuccessful attempts. If suddenly IVF does not give positive results, then ICSI has proven to be highly effective. Any patient diagnosed with oligospermia may well hope to become a parent in the future. But resorting to a folk remedy without consulting a specialist is extremely dangerous.

To achieve success in the treatment of oligospermia, an integrated approach is important. You can't hope for a chance. If a man does not succeed in becoming a parent for a long period, then this is a reason to consult a doctor, to undergo a full study. It is also important to understand that the cause of severe consequences and many ailments in men is the ill-fated prostatitis. It is necessary to treat pathology at the first manifestations, which will help to avoid irreversible consequences in the future.
