How to cure chronic cystitis at home
With improper treatment of acute cystitis, the disease can become chronic. Prolonged constipation, a sedentary lifestyle increase the risk of chronic inflammation. For those who have already experienced the hardships of Chronic cystitis, it will be useful to know how to get rid of this disease forever.
Reasons
Risk factors for cystitis:
- Inadequate hygiene of the genitals, improper washing or cleansing after defecation. When moving the wipe from the anus to the vulva, bacteria can enter the urethra.
- Too active sex life, violation of sex hygiene standards. Girls often encounter such a problem for the first time precisely at the onset of sexual activity.
- Prolonged use of a urinary catheter contributes to the penetration of bacteria into the bladder.
- A number of features and conditions of the body - diabetes, pregnancy, period menopause, urinary obstruction, infection.
Most cases of cystitis are bacterial in origin. Normally, the bladder and urethra are sterile, but under certain conditions, pathogenic microbes can get there.
Most often it is Escherichia coli that enters the urethra from the anus, less often - saprophytic staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella, and even less often - other bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa. There is also non-infectious cystitis, its causes are toxic, chemical, allergic, radiation damage to the bladder.
Symptoms
Chronic cystitis is diagnosed when symptoms of acute inflammation persist for more than 2 months. All symptoms may be present, or only 2-3 from the list may be present:
- frequent urge to urinate;
- false urge or small amount of urine;
- strong smell of urine, e cloudiness, sometimes blood or pus:
- various unpleasant sensations during micturition, pain, pain, burning, sensation of incomplete urination;
- chills, fever within 380 C;
- aching pain in the lower abdomen or in the rectum intestines.
In the remission stage, the patient may feel absolutely normal, without signs of chronic cystitis. Sometimes there is a slight increase in urination. It happens that the disease is discovered by chance during examination for another reason.
Interstitial cystitis is an inflammation of the walls of the bladder, affecting not only the mucous membrane, but also the deeper layers. The exact causes are unknown, the infection is not involved in the process.
The treatment of this form of the disease is the most difficult. The walls of the bladder thicken, wrinkle, the organ cannot fully function. This form of chronic cystitis is characterized by constant pain in the area of the bladder, frequent urges, pain during intercourse.
For men
Men experience cystitis much less frequently. They have a longer and narrower urethra, its opening is far from the anus, so it is more difficult for bacteria to reach the bladder. Single microbes that enter the urethra are washed off with urine or killed by immune cells. A sufficient number of pathogens can accumulate with a strong decrease in immunity or with congestion in the bladder.
In addition to symptoms common to both sexes, men experience pain in the groin, scrotum, and glans penis.
Chronic cystitis often develops in men suffering from sexually transmitted infections, prostatitis, urethritis, prostate adenoma or cancer, infectious diseases of the kidneys and ureters, severe immunodeficiency. Surgical treatment of chronic cystitis in men is resorted to if it is caused by prostate adenoma, which interferes with the normal outflow of urine.
Women
Women, due to the anatomical features of the urethra, are much more prone to cystitis than men. The chronic form develops in every eighth. The incidence of chronic cystitis in older women is even higher.
The effect is a decrease in estrogen, which helps women protect themselves from infections, age-related thinning of the walls of the bladder, low physical activity, and a slowdown in metabolism. Urinary incontinence is a frequent consequence of chronic cystitis in the elderly.
Analyses
For the correct diagnosis and choice of treatment tactics for suspected chronic cystitis, you need to undergo the following examinations:
- general urinalysis;
- analysis according to the Nechiporenko method;
- bacterial culture of urine (analysis for flora and sensitivity to antibiotics);
- general blood test;
- for women, a smear and gynecological examination;
- ultrasound examination of the bladder and kidneys.
We have to wait about a week for the results of bacterial culture tests. The rest of the research is done within 1-2 days.
Treatment
In chronic cystitis, concomitant diseases and foci of chronic infection in the body are identified and treated. The main link in the treatment of cystitis are antibiotics. In addition to antibiotics, the following are used to treat and prevent exacerbations:
- phytotherapy;
- physiotherapy;
- administration of antiseptics into the bladder.
With an exacerbation of cystitis, patients are advised to rest more, avoid physical exertion, lifting weights, bed rest is indicated.
Antibiotics
Only antibiotic therapy can cure chronic cystitis forever, if we are not talking about the interstitial form of the disease. In case of exacerbation, broad-spectrum antibiotics are first prescribed, which are necessarily active against Escherichia coli.
In the bladder, the bactericidal concentration of the drug quickly accumulates, and improvement occurs. If this does not happen, a new drug is prescribed based on the results of bacterial culture.
Most commonly used medicines:
- Fosfomycin, trade name Monural. In chronic cystitis, it is used 1 to 3 times. The powder is dissolved in a small amount of water, drunk after emptying the bladder, preferably at night.
- Doxycycline and other tetracycline antibiotics.
- Nitrofurans - Furadonin, Furamag, Furagin. Tablets or capsules are taken 3 times a day for a week, then for a month, 100 mg (1 or 2 capsules) at night.
- Fluoroquinols are broad-spectrum antibacterial drugs. They have relatively many side effects, are contraindicated in children under 18 and pregnant women, but with bacterial resistance to most antibiotics, they can become a panacea. This group includes Nolicin, Zoflox, Ciprolet and other drugs.
- Cephalosporins are for oral use - Suprax, Pancef, and for intramuscular administration - Ceftriaxone, Cefazolin, Ceftazidime.
Depending on the individual list of contraindications and the results of sowing, one of the other antibacterial agents can be selected - ampicillin, amoxicillin, sulfanilamide preparations.
Other drugs
To alleviate the condition, reduce pain, antispasmodics are used - drotaverine, papaverine. It is acceptable to use conventional painkillers and antipyretics, such as paracetamol. Heating pads on the lower abdomen and warm baths help reduce pain, but are prohibited in the presence of blood in the urine.
Doctors urologists and nephrologists will often prescribe drugs such as Canephron, Cyston (plant extracts in drops or tablets) and Uro-Vaxom and its analogues (bacteria lysate in capsules).
These drugs are used both in combination with antibiotics and for a long time to prevent exacerbations. In the treatment of chronic cystitis in menopausal women, hormone replacement drugs are also used.
Diet and routine
Proper diet is an important component of the treatment of cystitis. A number of food products irritate the walls of the bladder and urethra, interfere with recovery and increase unpleasant symptoms. With chronic cystitis, you will have to stick to a diet for months, or even years.
During the period of remissions, sometimes you can afford some indulgences. During an exacerbation, it is in the interests of the patient to strictly follow dietary instructions.
Here's what to avoid or minimize:
- alcohol;
- strong tea and coffee;
- fried foods;
- smoked meats, pickles, marinades;
- spicy food, sauces - mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard;
- leafy greens, especially sorrel;
- chocolate;
- sour and irritating vegetables and fruits - tomatoes, radishes , citrus fruits;
- rich broths and dishes prepared with gelatin
If salts are detected in the urine sediment, the attending physician can supplement this list, depending on which salts are found.
Porridges, soups with vegetable broth, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, bread, pasta, egg dishes are allowed. Boiled or baked meat and fish are included in the diet in moderation. For the prevention of constipation, fermented milk products and a sufficient amount of fiber are recommended.
You need to increase the amount of fluid you drink and urinate more often, thereby diluting the concentration of urine and washing out bacteria. You can drink water, including alkaline mineral water without gas, decoctions and infusions of diuretic herbs, fruit drinks, compotes, weak tea.
Healing herbs
Chronic cystitis is a disease in which even official treatment regimens include courses of herbal infusions. Recommended plants that have a diuretic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial effect, relieve spasms and strengthen local immunity
For medicinal chavas, a universal recipe is suitable: brew a tablespoon of the collection or 2 pharmacy filter bags with a glass of boiling water, wrap, let it brew for about 15 minutes.
For chronic cystitis, in collections or separately, they drink such herbs as:
- horsetail;
- bearberry;
- corn silk;
- chamomile flowers;
- licorice root;< /li>
- birch buds;
- herbs of mountaineer bird;
- St. John's wort;
- yarrow;

Drink ready-made infusion 100 ml 3 times a day half an hour before meals. It is best to brew 200 ml each time, store the remaining half of the serving in the refrigerator. It is impossible to prepare an infusion in liters, it quickly loses its medicinal properties.
Folk remedies
In addition to herbal teas, traditional medicine recommends the following drinks for this ailment:
- Cranberry and cranberry fruit drinks and compotes. These are the only sour berries recommended for cystitis.
- Baking soda solution: a third of a teaspoon in a glass of water. Neutralizes acidic urine that causes burning. It is used for exacerbations 3 times a day on an empty stomach.
- A decoction of flax seeds. Boil 3 tablespoons in 0.5 liters of water, strain, after cooling to a comfortable temperature, drink in small sips.
- You can make a medicinal drink from millet. Rinse 0.5 cups of cereal, pour a glass of water, knead vigorously, crush the millet with your hands. Drink all the resulting whitish liquid. There is no limit on the number of drinks.
Treatment of chronic cystitis with folk remedies cannot replace a full-fledged therapy, but it complements it perfectly.
Prevention
Preventive measures:
- Timely emptying of the bladder. You need to urinate at least 5 times a day. If it turns out less, you should increase the volume of fluid intake or go to the toilet even without urging to avoid stagnation of urine. 6-8 mics per day - just right.
- Genital hygiene. 1-2 times a day you need to wash the external genitalia with warm water. You can use special soft products for intimate hygiene, but you can’t use soap. Additionally, you need to wash before intercourse, especially after anal sex. For this type of intercourse, the use of a condom is recommended. It is strictly unacceptable after anal penetration to insert a penis into the vagina, touch it to the vulva.
- Washing and cleansing after defecation is carried out with movements from front to back. It is important to teach children the correct direction of hand movement with a napkin or toilet paper.
- Prevention of hypothermia. It is necessary to protect the legs, pelvis and lower back from prolonged exposure to cold. Exacerbations of chronic cystitis often occur after a person has sat in the cold or walked in a short jacket in windy weather.
- Tight, squeezing clothing, uncomfortable underwear, wearing thongs and synthetic panties should be avoided. Underwear should be changed to fresh in a timely manner.
- Any infections should be treated immediately. There is a lymphogenous method of infection, in which microbes spread through the lymph from the site of inflammation throughout the body. It is impossible to predict which organ will be hit.
- Do not neglect morning exercises, walks, moderate physical education.
The more responsibly the patient will follow all the recommendations, the more chances he has for a complete cure.
