Frequent urge to urinate in men - from cause to treatment

Frequent Urge To Urinate In Men From Cause To Treatment

A common cause of increased urge to use the toilet among the stronger sex is age-related changes in the prostate - inflammation and adenoma. In general, this symptom unites several diseases or even just temporary phenomena. With frequent urination in men, treatment is not always required. It is important to learn how to correctly diagnose the process in order to see a doctor on time.

Frequent painless urination: normal or abnormal?

The activity of the kidneys is normally regulated by the concentration in the blood of ADH, an antidiuretic hormone, a product of adrenal synthesis. Each person has a natural renewal of urges individually. In men, the cause of excessive urination may consist in a single use in cold weather of a significant volume of fluid (over 2 liters per day). After a few hours, the body begins to get rid of it.

The cases of alcohol consumption are also within the limits of the relative norm. Ethanol has a tendency to block antidiuretic hormone. And in drunken representatives of both sexes, the urge to urinate remains more frequent for 18-20 hours after libation. All this leads to partial dehydration, but it is dangerous for the health of only alcoholics. Likewise, the urge after sex does not require treatment.

This phenomenon is equally characteristic of men and women, and its cause is the general increased activity of the pelvic muscles during sex and orgasm.

Much closer to pathology are episodes of increased urination in men in combination with edema of the extremities or "bags" under the eyes after eating salty, spicy foods. Even if the patient does not have pain in the lower back after them, such a reaction to an excess of sodium chloride indicates the initial, while almost asymptomatic, stages of cardiovascular or renal diseases.

It is not entirely correct to argue that table salt retains fluid in tissues - it participates in water-salt metabolism, contributes to its even distribution in tissues. And if its absorption in a slightly larger volume leads to edema, their cause lies in the excess water already present in the tissues. Most likely, it is caused by a failure of the circulatory system or kidneys.

Another good cause for concern is the constant urge to urinate with a consistently high appetite and weight loss without diet. Patients with these symptoms may occasionally experience the smell of fruit (essentially acetone) in their mouth. In this case, we are talking about the transition of a long and rather secretly proceeding stage of prediabetes into "full-fledged" diabetes mellitus. And the kidneys in diabetics work so energetically without compensation because they try to remove excess sugar from the bloodstream, which is dangerous for the walls of blood vessels.

Reasons

Not accompanied by pain, a jump in kidney activity in the vast majority of cases is not provoked by them. Among the most common third-party factors of the phenomenon are the following:

  • diabetes mellitus;
  • cardiovascular pathologies;
  • adenoma;
  • prostatitis.

The causes of frequent urination in men without pain may lie in the failure of the sphincters of the bladder, resulting in urinary incontinence. Among urological pathologies proper, this effect is caused by:

  • jade;
  • pyelonephritis;
  • cystitis;
  • nephrolithiasis;
  • cancer of any of the 2 urinary sphincters.

In all cases, except for the last, we are talking about the initial stages. They quickly "incapacitate" the affected organ. And after a few weeks / months, its increased activity, caused by irritation of the nerve endings due to inflammation, gives way to inhibition of its functions. But in cancer, urination is impaired due to the replacement of normal muscle tissue by altered cells that do not obey the commands of the central nervous system.

Intervention on the muscles of the pelvic floor, rectum, penis, scrotum, prostate, or taking a number of drugs (other than diuretics) can lead to temporary or permanent incontinence. In the second case, this side effect is most typical for:

  • adrenergic blockers - especially of the alpha type. These drugs are prescribed for cardiovascular problems;
  • estrogens - in men they are used to treat adenomas;
  • anticholinergic psychotropics - like haloperidol or nortriptyline.

It was also noted for antispasmodics, especially in the form of folk remedies, in which, by definition, it is impossible to establish the concentration of active substances. Valerian, immortelle, orthosiphon, motherwort, belladonna have a relaxing effect on the smooth muscles of the sphincters. Frequent urge to urinate in men may be associated with osteochondrosis of the lumbar spine.

Symptoms and signs

If a man of 60 years and older, a diabetic, taking antidepressants of a patient, the cause of the increasing abnormalities in the activity of the bladder is clear, then in the absence of an obvious "background" it must be found.

An infection in men is most reliably indicated by pain and itching in the urethra, combined with profuse urination, foreign secretions and skin rashes.

Treatment

Painless urination as a one-time episode of the body can be "forgiven". Regular (more than 2 times a month) repetition already requires a visit to a doctor.

A man should be treated by a urologist, but most often - in conjunction with an andrologist, cardiologist, nephrologist.

Ways

If profuse urination at night (nocturia) looks like not just strong urges, but enuresis, strengthening of the pelvic muscles helps in any case. Gymnastics is also effective for prostatitis with adenoma. It includes:

  • "crawling" on the buttocks around the room, with legs and arms straightened on the floor strictly behind the head (you cannot help them when moving);
  • alternating tension and relaxation of the pelvic muscles (carried out by movement, as with frictions);
  • intentional interruption of the urinary stream 2-3 times in 1 emptying;
  • lifting the pelvis up to the ceiling from a supine position with bent (resting feet on the floor) and legs apart.

A man needs to do gymnastics every other day, repeat each exercise 10-12 times three times, with a break of a couple of minutes. The interval for muscle contraction and relaxation is 5 sec. In some patients, equestrian sports are used for treatment and:

  • mud applications on the lower abdomen and groin every 3 days;
  • psychotherapy;
  • acupressure;
  • electrophoresis;
  • magnetic fields.

Nocturia is exacerbated by hypothermia of the lower body. Avoiding it helps to level the infection or stones and improves the picture in all scenarios of increased urge.

Pills for frequent urination in men

Medicines for excessive urination only exist if it is caused by an infection. It is inappropriate to prescribe pills to yourself without knowing the reason. First, you need to establish the type of pathogen, and this can only be done by a doctor.

Other drugs

You can also try herbal, but medicinally approved herbal mixtures, such as:

  • Canephron - 50 drops in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening before meals;
  • Urolesan - 10 drops on a piece of refined sugar three times a day;
  • Cyston - 2 tablets in the morning and in the evening, for up to 20 days.

Folk remedies

It is now fashionable to take alternative medicine-developed drugs to replace pills from the pharmacy, although frequent urination at night in men is usually beyond their "competence". The urinary tract sanitizes well:

  • dill seeds - a tablespoon of raw materials, left in a glass of boiling water in a thermos for 3 hours;
  • chamomile - 15 g of flowers, brewed like tea, for only 20 minutes;
  • lingonberry berries - exclusively when alkalizing urine, absorb fresh or frozen, 100 g twice a day;
  • sodium bicarbonate - for too acidic urine, 30 ml of a solution of a teaspoon of powder in 250 ml of warm water, up to 4 times a day.

How to get rid of it once and for all?

Usually, a young man does not have any difficulties with the elimination of excessive urges. And after 45 years, such phenomena are still inevitable due to age-related prostatitis. It is impossible to get rid of it - only to control so that it does not interfere too much with sex life and the activity of the bladder with the kidneys.

Prevention

Frequent trips to the toilet at night, as a one-time phenomenon and explainable by the circumstances of the previous day, is not dangerous. Most of the pathologies of the genitourinary system begin imperceptibly, and are irreversible after the onset of symptoms. But it is impossible to independently check her condition - you need to see a urologist, visit an andrologist at least once a year, this is prevention.
