Is It Dangerous To Urinate At Night

Many men go to the doctor with a complaint that I wake up to the toilet at night, which is not always a pathological condition. At any age, a man can wake up at night to the toilet with an urge to urinate. There may be several reasons for the development of such a reflex. Among them, several main ones should be highlighted.

The most common reason for men to go to the toilet at night is the pathology of the prostate gland. It is one of the main organs of the male reproductive system, which is located in the pelvic region and has a close anatomical connection with the bladder and rectum. Sizes are individual in nature and may depend on the age of the man, as well as the presence of diseases. The organ has a high degree of blood supply. The exit ducts have a close connection between the bladders, thanks to the presence of a valve apparatus.

What is the prostate gland responsible for

The main function of the prostate is the production of secretions necessary for the delivery of sperm. It is its production that ensures the preservation of the functional abilities of male germ cells and protects them from the effects of environmental factors, ensuring the process of fertilization.

One of the most common pathologies of the prostate gland leading to nocturnal urination is Prostate adenoma. It is a condition that occurs in men of various ages, but most often it manifests itself in adulthood and old age. The exact cause of the development of adenoma has not yet been established, but there is an assumption that it may be a hormonal imbalance associated with insufficient production of androgens in the male body. As a result, there is a gradual increase in the size of the organ, due to the hypertrophy of the glandular tissue. The prostate begins to squeeze adjacent organs, including the bladder.

Prostate adenoma does not cause a specific clinic. A man can only complain about an increase in the number of urges to urinate. A characteristic feature of this disease is the presentation of complaints by men in the early stages of nighttime awakening and the urge to urinate. As the progression progresses, the number of urges should be more frequent, including at night, and the volume of urine, on the contrary, decrease. With a massive increase in the organ, a complete cessation of urine separation may occur. This condition will require urgent surgical intervention.

Diagnostics at the initial stages can be difficult, since the size of an organ to a small extent can be taken as an individual feature. While the methods of laboratory diagnostics also do not confirm the diagnosis. Only with dynamic observation is the progression of organ enlargement noted. The main method for assessing the condition of the prostate gland is ultrasound scanning.

At the initial stages, attempts are made to conservatively treat substances of hormonal or plant origin. The course of therapy, as a rule, is long-term and the effect is cumulative. A positive result from the reception can be expected no earlier than six months after the regular priming. Conservative treatment is possible only at the stage of a slight increase. The several times enlarged prostate gland will no longer be able to change under the influence of drugs, and in this case, only surgical intervention is possible. It will consist in partial or complete removal of the prostate.

Prostatitis

This is another reason why a man is forced to wake up at night because of the urge to urinate. The stage of its course is acute and chronic. So the first dates are predominantly more pronounced symptoms compared to the second. A man complains that when you wake up at night, you feel not only going to the toilet for a little, but also a slight soreness. Pain can be localized within the pelvis and radiate to the rectum or inner thigh. In the acute period, a similar manifestation is noted several times per night.

A clinic of intoxication may appear with an increase in body temperature and severe chills. In this case, they rely on laboratory indicators indicating an inflammatory process, examination and palpation of the gland, as well as ultrasound data. Treatment consists of the appointment of anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agents.

Sexually transmitted diseases

This is also one of the factors that leads to the fact that a man wakes up at night to use the toilet. This is due either to damage to the urethra by pathogens or to involvement in the inflammatory process of the prostate gland, which contributes to the development of prostatitis. Along with a violation of urination, a man may be disturbed by discharge from the genital tract, as well as a violation of potency. Often, as soon as a man wakes up, he has discharge. Pathology is detected quite easily.Already after laboratory diagnostics, it is possible, taking into account the sensitivity of the pathogen to drugs, to prescribe conservative therapy.

There are also reasons that are not related to problems associated with the male reproductive system.

Among them are the following:

  • One of the most harmless reasons why you have to get up at night to use the toilet is drinking a lot of fluids. Despite the fact that doctors recommend drinking at least 1.5-2 liters of water per day, it should be remembered that prim should be stopped no later than 2-2.5 hours before the expected fall asleep. Most of the daily allowance should be divided into the morning hours, so the body reacts less to increased kidney function and some part can be spent on physiological loss processes, such as sweating, etc. In addition, before going to bed, be sure to go to the toilet to empty your bladder.
  • Drinking large amounts of alcohol or caffeine. Ethyl alcohol, like caffeine, increases urine production. That is why every man should remember that if you wake up in the toilet at night, you should pay attention to the time of consumption of these drinks. For many reasons, caffeine should be stopped after 6-7 pm, even if falling asleep late, and alcoholic drinks of various strengths no later than three hours before falling asleep. In this case, the man, as soon as he wakes up, immediately goes to the toilet.

Based on the above, we can conclude that any change in urination requires careful diagnosis and treatment, as it can lead to the development of serious complications.
